Workforce Development Coordinator

Polaris MEP, a division of the URI Research Foundation and funded by NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology) guides RI manufacturers to sustainable growth, innovative technology strategies and cost efficient operations.  Polaris MEP is looking to hire a Workforce Development Coordinator (WDC).

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Workforce Development Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Polaris MEP Center Director

The WDC works with Polaris MEP staff and partners to accomplish the Center’s goals and objectives around workforce development and employment training. The WDC’s primary purpose is to coordinate programs that cultivate a capable workforce for Rhode Island Manufacturing employers. Please send your resume and cover letter to ccowan@polarismep.org.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities required for Real Jobs RI grants to support manufacturing employers hiring needs
  • Outreach to employers to inquire about hiring and training needs
  • Work with recruiting agencies such as Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training (RIDLT) and Skills for RI Future to provide candidates for training programs
  • Coordinate express grants and provide information to members about available training funds and hiring incentives
  • Submit reports and make recommendations to appropriate committees, agencies, and governmental units
  • Meet and communicate effectively with state and federal program and fiscal monitors to ensure adherence to policies, regulations, directives, and recommendations
  • Meet with other workforce service areas and organizations to review policies, programs, and developments
  • Present program objectives to individuals, groups, businesses, agencies, and organizations to encourage their cooperation and participation and to solicit suggestions and feedback.
  • Utilize various media outlets to publicize programs and developments
  • Maintain communication with and serve as program advocate for Polaris MEP
  • Respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints, as necessary, and in a timely manner
  • Reporting  as required for grant purposes
  • Monthly reporting to Polaris MEP Board of Advisors
  • Employment opportunities and training needs, internships, job shadows, mentorships, guest speakers, etc.

Qualifications:

  • 5 – 10 years experience with workforce development programs
  • Experience with training programs for youth, unemployed and under employed
  • Strong management and organization skills, and the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to effectively interface with staff, and boards of directors
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required
