Rhode Island boasts more than 650 food manufacturers and more than 40 registered for beverage manufacturing. The food and beverage industry is the third largest contributor to the overall U.S. manufacturing gross domestic product.
Total U.S. employment in the industry is over 1.8 million and over three-quarters of the 27,000 U.S. food manufacturers have fewer than 100 employees.
Food manufacturers faces many challenges including compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act, using sustainable packaging and production, technology innovations, and more. In Rhode Island and across the country, the MEP National NetworkTM supports food and beverage manufacturing businesses with a variety of solutions including lean manufacturing, inventory management, facility layout, quality certifications, and customized training.
