ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Kern Maass
Kern Maass started working as the fifth president of the IYRS School of Technology and Trades last July. Maass brings 20 years of experience working in higher education to the IYRS campus. Most recently, he served as the dean of the College of Music and Media at Loyola University in New Orleans.
Prior to his chapter in higher education, Maass owned his own furniture company. He made the leap from furniture maker and designer to running a furniture design program. He eventually became head of the industrial design program and then associate dean of Appalachian State University’s College of Fine and Applied Arts in North Carolina. He notes that the craftsmanship skills needed for boatbuilding and furniture making are transferable, and he feels at ease in front of the many machines and tools on the IYRS campus.

Polaris MEP is committed to offering the best business improvement programs to Rhode Island Manufacturers.
In order to achieve that goal and to justify continued U.S. Department of Commerce funding for these services, participants are asked to provide impact data and assessment. You’ll be asked for feedback through a short online survey within 1-3 days of this program and possibly again through an impartial third-party survey firm, 6-12 months after the course ends.
