Polaris MEP, a division of the URI Research Foundation and funded by NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology) guides RI manufacturers to sustainable growth, innovative technology strategies and cost efficient operations.  Polaris MEP is looking to hire a Technology Acceleration Manager.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Technology Acceleration Manager
REPORTS TO: Polaris MEP Center Director

Polaris MEP is looking for a Technology Acceleration Manager focused on building the Center’s ability to help small manufacturers who wish to acquire new capabilities involving advanced technology, and on the role of advanced technology in OEM requirements for their suppliers. This position will also analyze and support ecosystem improvements for technology based manufacturing startup companies. Polaris MEP is looking for this position to bring together teams of experts in specific technology and supply chain areas to offer small manufacturers an array of services and deep expertise relating to technology acceleration, transition, and commercialization. The projects will identify where manufacturers most need assistance in adopting or adapting technology, and also test and demonstrate business models that will allow small manufacturers to access the technology transition and commercialization services they need to most effectively compete within those supply chain markets. Please send your resume and cover letter to ccowan@polarismep.org.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate Intellectual Property data gathering from multiple technology sources
  • Analyze national best practices for Technology Acceleration and define appropriate programs in Rhode Island
  • Create process for technology assessment as it relates to local commercializing potential
    Create standardized procedures for data management
  • Identify key partners and establish formal relationships for IP transfer to local manufacturing entities
  • Manage relationships with local manufacturing companies as it relates to ability to commercialize new technology
  • Create process for determining a company’s ability to adapt their business to accept new technology for product or process improvements
  • Identify, define and execute events in order to promote and grow Technology Acceleration in Rhode Island
  • Analyze and identify new tools to support the local manufacturing startup community
  • Identify and manage metrics required for federal, state and center operations
  • Support management of marketing, outreach and events for a cohesive outreach effort

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years experience in a university setting or technology based organization
  • C-suite level industry experience is critical to understand commercialization requirements for Technology Acceleration
  • Experience with Intellectual Property licensing or ability to understand IP Law
  • Internal business operations and understanding of manufacturing technology trends
  • Experience with strategic and operations planning
  • Strong management and organization skills, and the ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to effectively interface with staff, boards of directors, and financial auditors
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related degree required.  Masters or PhD preferred
